Terra manufactures in excess of 1 million tonnes of Nitric Acid per annum, according to systems registered to ISO 9002.

Varying strengths of acid are manufactured which are supplied to the Industrial Chemical Market.

The process used is catalytic oxidisation of Ammonia, whereby Ammonia is combusted in the presence of excess oxygen, to yield various oxides of Nitrogen. These oxides are absorbed into water to generate the Nitric Acid.

Nitric Acid is a powerful oxidising agent and is widely used in the chemical industry for the nitration of organic chemicals or inorganic metals. Typical uses are in the manufacture of fertilizer, dyestuffs, explosives, fungicides & catalysts, polymer manufacture, water treatment, fibre manufacture, food processing and in the recovery of spent nuclear fuel. Its corrosive properties also enable its use in metal pickling, metal cleaning and plating applications.
